Wednesday - Day 12 Vacation

Free afternoon after pot luck breakfast. Never seen so much food.  Eggs, bacon, sasuage, egg casseroles, donuts, coffee, milk, orange juice and more.  No one walked away hungry.

Went to Bearizona after breakfast.  Drive thur animal park under construction.  Our group met there and rode tour buses through the park.  Saw big horn sheep, buffalo, white buffalo and black bears.  The bear put on a show for us.

Donkeys
Bison
Big Horn Ram
White buffalo.

He pulled the tree all the way to the ground and ate some of the leaves.
He was turning rocks in the water looking for something to eat.

They had 2 bear cubs in a seperate pen.  They were playing and having a good time.  They also had 3 wolf cubs, but they were just laying around napping.

The cubs are rolling up the sod looking for worms underneath.

We went into downtown Williams to do the walking tour, but alas, the rains came.  Later on the skies cleared.  After the ice cream social, Michael and I rode with friends to the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff.  It was built in 1894 and houses a 24" scope.  Lowell discovered Pluto with this scope.  It is a very interesting place.  Just before we got there the skies opened up again with more rain, so they were not able to open up the dome to let us view anything.

Tuesday - Day 11 Vacation

Off to the Grand Canyon we went.  Great catered breakfast this AM.  Eggs, biscuits & gravy, bacon, sausage, potatoes, coffee and orange juice.  Had about an hour after breakfast to shower and walk the dogs.  Since we have purchased all the seats in one car for the train trip, the train stopped at the campground blocking the highway to load us.  Nice not to have to get everyone to downtown train station.  Campground had prepared box lunches for all of us going, so we avoid the high priced food and drinks at the canyon.

Rain in the canyon.
Hopi dancers.
Train Robber

Train Robbers.
She is having way too much fun getting robbed.
The law arrives - robbers flee.

Returned to park and walked the dogs.  Ate sandwiches and went to campfire. Had popcorn and watched a Terry Fator DVD.  This guy is awesome.  You really need to catch one of his shows.  Then to bed to get rested for tomorrow.

Monday - Day 10 Vacation

Free day on the agenda.  We slept in this morning and had a late breakfast.  Jess has started standing on the back of the dinette bench to look out the window over Ellen's shoulder.

Michael and I headed off to the hardware store to buy a "Y" connector for the water hose.

Then we headed out to the Planes of Fame Air Museum.  Great drive out to the airport.  Beautiful mountain scenery.  Museum was small but housed some really neat old planes including some WW1 planes.

Will add more pictures later.

Sunday - Day 9 Vacation

Sat around today and met and greeted those arriving today.  A little warm out in the sun, but wonderful in the shade.  It was fun seeing friends arrive and catch up with what is going on.

Around 4 PM the rain came in, and boy did it pour, including some pea size hail.  By 5 it had passed on and we made our way to the meeting area.  There we were given our packets and marked changes to the agenda before dinning on a mexican dinner.  It was not TexMex.  Kinda bland for my tastes, but eatible.  Had live music again and of course the camp fire got lit.  We sat around and had a really great time.

Friday - Day 7 Vacation

We took the day off.  Stayed at the campground.  Long walks with dogs, watched movies and took a nap.  Great day of doing nothing.  Going to leave soon for the Blazing M Ranch for a chuckwagon supper and live western show.  Everyone here at the campground says the food is great, all you can eat BBQ, and stage show is super.  We will see.

Got back about 10 PM last night after supper and show.  Meal was good, but NOT Texas BBQ.  Show was super.  Singers were good and very enteraining.

We ate supper in the big red barn.
Michael and I got thrown into jail.

After dinner, we stopped and topped off with fuel in Cottonwood.  At $2.89, it was the cheapest we had seen since leaving Texas.  We then stopped at a super Walmart and stocked up on some things we were running low on.

Thursday - Day 6 Vacation

Ellen cooked a big breakfast this AM and we took our time getting going.  Actually we did not leave until around noon.  Here are a few pictures of the park and the surrounding mountains.

We then headed out for Sedona.  Here are a couple of shots along the way.

A couple of shots in Sedona

We booked a desert trip in a Hummer.  We met our driver on the street in the above picture and off we went for a scenic/offroad trip.  The trail we were on had some washes on it and pretty rough spots.  We did some rock crawling a couple of times.  Other times, when road was on level ground we would travel at speeds up to 35 mph.  By no means were the trails smooth;  we were glad we were belted in tight.

Say hello to Scott our driver.  We had a lot of fun.

Came back to the trailer and went to the pool to cool off for a while.  Afterward, we ate dinner as we had not had lunch after our late large breakfast.
