Avion Trailer

Well we have done it now. I went up Wednesday and looked at a 1983 Avion 34' travel trailer and put a deposit on it today. Nice trailer ready for use except needs new tires. We will pick up when we get back from Florida and start the process of cleaning it up and moving into it. Pictures can be view here: http://picasaweb.google.com/norton.ron/Avion#.

Saturday Evening

Ellen and I went to Lake Somerville to meet up with friends in the Brazos Sailing Club. We had 5 boats go out for an evening starlight sail and raft up with pot luck snacks. Had to a great time. See ya!

Laid back Friday.

Ellen and I spent Friday just enjoying being together. We left home about 11 am heading to Galveston and Kemah. Came upon an accident on South I45 the had freeway closed. Exited and wound our way around back roads to Kemah. We went to Kemah Hardware and bought a 1/4 sheet of Starboard to make a new table for our Catalina 22. Afterward we went to West Marine looking for some epoxy paint to repaint the little Dolphin Sr I traded for, but had no luck. Guess I'll have to order from internet. We were hungry, so we stopped in T-Bone Tom's for a great meal.

Drove on down to Galveston. State Park has some beach side sites open. There were 7 0r 8 rigs camping there. Beach now right near the back of the new bath houses, not much park left. Drove down Sea Wall Blvd to ferry landing and rode ferry over to Bolivar. Drove out as far as we could go on 87 and then cut back up to I10 at Winnie. Some things still over there but so much missing. You could see where homes and buildings used to be. But some places there was no evidence that there used to be neighborhoods there except for the power poles still standing.

We looked for the place where my Dad had a place down there. Nothing. No streets or anything. All gone.

We had a great day together and have decieded we could get used to doing things together after Ellen retires!

Tuesday Brazos Sailing Club meeting

Drove up to the boat on Lake Somerville Tuesday afternoon to get some things off the boat and check on it. Then went over to College Station to the club meeting. Had a great turnout at the meeting and as always, good food. Joe was our speaker for the meeting. He had recently completed the Texas 200 sailboat trip. (www.texas200.com) He had lots of pictures and stories about the 5 day trip up the intercoastal canal and across the bays. May have to give this a try next year.

4th of July

Last weekend was great with friends at Rayford Crossing. Campground had all kinds of games for both adults and kids. My favorite was the watermelon eating contests. Some really got into to it and had juice dripping everywhere. I choose to watch and got a piece after the contest was over. Really good watermelon. Motorhomes of Texas brought a coach to show. It was a used 2007 Foretravel that looked new for only $229,000. I'll keep my trailer. They did provide lunch for all - hamburgers, fixings and chips. Campground owners did the cooking.

While on that side of town, Ellen and I along with friends Ray & Annette ran over to look at a 1983 Avion, one owner, excellent condition. Would not pull it home at 1/2 the price. You just never know looking at used rigs.

Couple in motorhome next to us had an outside TV and several of us ended up over there to watch the NASCAR race Saturday night. Lots of fun watching with other fans. Great final lap of the race.

Bonnie

Bonnie got the staples out of her leg today. Hard to believe that just Tuesday 10 days ago she had surgery for torn ACL - Vet called it her football knee injury. We are having a hard time keeping her calm. She wants to play again just like she did before the injury. Vet said keep her as calm as possible to allow complete healing. Jesse bugs her to death trying to get her to play with him like before, now she wants to, but we have to keep calming them both down. Leash walks up to 15 minutes now allowed. 4 more weeks before we can take her to creek and let her run.

Bandera, Texas with Texas Boomers

River access down the road from campground.

Doe and newborn fawn.

This is the office of Skyline RV Park in Bandera, Texas. We went over to Bander with the Texas Boomers group. We were a mix of Houston and San Antonio members, I think 12 rigs made it. We all went into town on Saturday for the River Fest. Art and craft booths, horse back riding, river activities and car show. It was far too HOT to really enjoy any of it. No pool at park, gravel roads and sites and more grass burrs/stickers than I have seen in a long time.
As always, pot luck breakfast and dinner were the greatest on Saturday. Mike and Amber had pastries and coffee for us all on Sunday morning. Left early trying to beat the heat. Trip home was a breeze compared to going. On Friday, there was an overturned tractor/trailer on the overpass at the Luling exit on I-10 west. I-10 closed, all traffic had to exit Luling and pass through the traffic signal back onto the entrance ramp to I-10. It took us over and hour to get rolling again.
